On February 7, 2025, the popular K-pop group NewJeans officially announced through their SNS accounts that they would be changing their group name to NJZ. The new name will represent the five members – Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein – as they embark on a new phase of their careers.

The group revealed that they will continue to maintain their distinctive musical style while introducing fresh elements to their performances. They also shared that they are set to meet their fans with new music in the first half of 2025. NJZ's first major event will be held in Hong Kong, where they will perform under their new name at "Complex Live" at the AsiaWorld-Expo from March 21 to 23.

Minji expressed her excitement for this new chapter, saying, "I'm very excited to step onto the stage as NJZ and show everyone a new side of us." NJZ also affirmed that they plan to expand their global activities and strengthen their brand identity with the change.”

However, the rebranding has not come without controversy. ADOR, the agency previously managing NewJeans, expressed regret over the group's decision to change their name and go independent. They stated, "The announcement of the new group name and activities before any legal judgment is made could be a serious violation of the exclusive contract."
